The last installment of Jared and Jen's New Orleans engagement series, Part 3, found us capturing the magic of the French Quarter as the sun prepared to bid adieu. We kicked off our evening rendezvous on the lively Frenchman Street, choosing a time a few hours before sunset when the light was just beginning to play in our favour, and the day's heat had started to mellow down, unlike the previous day's sweltering assault.
Our first few shots were crafted against the backdrop of the well-known graffiti adorning Decatur Street. The intricate graffiti complemented Jared's equally detailed and elaborate sleeve of tattoos, creating an intriguing juxtaposition of art and personality.
From there, we let our curiosity lead us, revelling in the golden hues the setting sun was casting over the historic residential neighbourhood. It was as if the sun was painting the old-world houses in strokes of gold, creating an enchanting scene.
The residential houses, unique and full of character, provided the vibrant and colourful backdrops we were seeking. They added an authentic flavour of the French Quarter, amplifying the charm of our photographs.
As someone who hasn't had many opportunities to travel, I often end up questioning my limited globetrotting experiences. But in times like these, when simplicity inspires me so profoundly, I realize the power of appreciating the beauty around you, wherever you are.
A defining feature of the French Quarter in New Orleans is its wrought-iron balconies. Most people associate these structures with the beaded necklaces tossed from them during the annual Mardi Gras celebrations. For us, they were the perfect elements to encapsulate both Jared and Jen's love and the striking backdrop of the city.
During my short stay in the city, I had the chance to dine at a mix of fabulous and not-so-remarkable restaurants. One of the good ones, the Curio Bistro, had a gorgeous balcony. Having spent my previous evening enjoying a meal there, I hoped they would allow us to use it for our shoot.
After, connected over a few drinks. This is when the true magic of my experience unfolded. The three of us shared our struggles and passions, reminding me of our shared humanity. Our bond, which had deepened over the past two days, was further cemented during this hour of candid conversation.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we made our way back to their hotel, capturing the beauty of the moment and the city, one photograph at a time. As I clicked the shutter for the last time that day, I knew we had created something truly special.
