Aquatarium Wedding Photography : Jaclyn & Micheal
Backyard Brockville wedding ceremony kicks off party at the Aquatarium
Jaclyn and Michael recently held a great backyard wedding at Michael's parents home located on the shore of the St. Lawerence River in Brockville.
Brockville is a small town, full of character, about an hour west of Ottawa. Nearly devoid of big box stores, its main street is full of Mom & Pop stores.
I drove to Brockville early the day of the wedding and scouted for locations to use as backdrops for a few creative portraits. One of the locations Jaclyn and Mike had in mind was the Brockville Rail Tunnel, Canada's first railway tunnel built in 1860. It was, honestly, way better than I expected. They use lights and sound to create the illusion of a train passing through every few minutes.
I met Mike soon after and we did some getting ready shots with his groomsmen and Dad. With the wedding happening in the backyard later that afternoon, it also gave me a chance to do some location scouting before Shannon, with Kennedy Event Planning and Sophie from Sage Designs had a chance to decorate.
I found a great spot for a first look down by the boat dock.
With the boys ready I headed off to meet Jaclyn and her bridesmaids at a cute boutique hotel, The Noble Suites. I arrived early so I was ready for Jaclyn to arrive and scouted a nice composition on the stairs and surprised her as they came in. I love the reaction on her face.
A nice unscripted moment during her getting ready was when her bridesmaids helped cover up a tattoo she had. It was quite the operation and it gave me lots of time to find nice storytelling detail shots.
Later during the first look, with Michael nearly (accidentally) foiled, the dock worked perfectly. I especially love the reaction Jaclyn had when she turned Michael around.
During the first looks, I like to give the couple time to spend together and connect before the ceremony. They've put a lot of work into getting here so it's nice to let them enjoy it.
We knocked off some bridal portraits immediately before Jaclyn, Mike and I headed to the railway tunnel for some dramatic epic wedding portraits.
Back at the house, guests were milling about enjoying refreshments and the breeze blowing off the water.
Under a bright blue sky, Jaclyn and Mike wed in front of close family and friends.
After the ceremony guests jumped onto a riverboat for a cruise to the Aquatarium where the Shannon and Sophie had turned the museum into a beautiful setting.
