Laura & Matt : Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East Wedding
All that glitters is gold in this smoking hot Italian wedding in September
Laura and Matt blew the roof off the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East with their mondo Italian wedding on a sizzling summer day in September.
With the effect of hurricanes in the South pushing hot air up to the Great White North, Laura and Matt got married on one of the hottest days of the year in Ottawa where the temperature climbed past 30 degrees Celsius.
Laura's family called in the troops as many family members travelled from the motherland, Italy, to watch her tie the knot with good Irish boy, Matt.
On this day I was working with the talented David Kawai so he worked with the boys in the morning while stayed with the girls.
I was greeted at the door by a glowing bride who was pretty much ready to rock so we just grabbed a couple makeup touch-ups and wedding details before photographing the gift exchange with the bridesmaids.
Then it happened.
The best wedding images are sometimes the ones you can't plan for and this was exactly that. In order to get the girls grouped nicely, we decided to get them on her parent's bed just before Laura put on her dress.
It worked...for a bit.
Then a loud crack shocked the everyone as the left side of the bed gave out, surprising everyone. Thankfully I didn't stop shooting and got the perfect reaction photo!
The ceremony was held at St. Anthony's church in Ottawa's Little Italy district and the reception was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East.
We stopped at Hog's Back Park - not the best name, I know - for the family portraits and decided to get everything done there so that the bridal party could get to the reception venue and out of the sweltering heat sooner.
After the bridal party and parents were introduced, Matt and Laura had their formal dances and then did something great by inviting everyone onto the dance floor for a 15-minute dance party.
It worked so well because the energy is still flowing from the lively introductions and people aren't weighed down by a big Italian meal with red wine. It worked so well I really didn't need to get the late night dancing but we stayed anyway.
Congrats to Matt and Laura!
