Now we are three - Ottawa Family Photography
Kyla and Sean's casual family photography session at home in Ottawa
Friend's Kyla and Sean recently welcomed their daughter, Indra Mickey, into their lives in April 2018.
Now that the dust had settled and they were, more or less, comfortably into a new routine, Sean connected with me and purchased a documentary family photography session for a Mother's Day present to Kyla.
As with many of my documentary family sessions, I work primarily unscripted. I'm looking to capture things as they are as if I just popped in one morning with my camera.
That said, the one thing I do try to do is schedule the photo session around a time when the child or children will be most content and active. For Indra Mickey, morning's are best.
During the session, Sean joked that in all the photos we would likely just be in the background holding a cup of coffee. On the contrary, Sean is a very hands-on Dad - I love the images Indra's little feet poking out from underneath the Dr. Seuss book he's reading her.
Kyla is an ardent animal rights activist and her two other "children", Mulligan the dog and so-and-so the cat, so we had to incorporate them into the shoot as well.
Since Kyla and Sean live so close to a great park we packed up and headed - despite and crazy heat.
Getting outside really opens up the options as I'm able to step back a bit and put my family in context to their surroundings a bit more. Check out the family photo session I did with Holy and her daughter for great examples of this.
